Eyeliner is one of the most widely used cosmetics in the world and has been popular for centuries. Think Cleopatra. But eyeliner can be tricky to apply. Below are steps to help you better apply either the pencil or liquid variety.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Eyeliner (liquid or pencil)
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Mirror
  • Good lighting
  1. Step 1

Use a cosmetic sharpener with your eyeliner pencil. You can find an inexpensive one at most drug stores. A sharp tip on your pencil will help you draw a straight, even line. If you are using liquid eyeliner, wipe off any excess to avoid a splotchy application.

  2. Step 2

Position yourself in front of a mirror and surround yourself with good lighting. The better you can see, the better the results.

  3. Step 3

Hold the pencil or liquid brush with your dominant hand. Stretch your eye open with your other hand by gently placing your index finger and thumb on the top and bottom of your eye.

  4. Step 4

Start from the inner corner of your eye and work your way to its outer edge. The line should touch the base of your eyelashes. For liquid eyeliner, hold your eyes apart for five to 10 seconds until the eyeliner has dried. Make a thicker line by repeating this process, or by purchasing a wider pencil or liquid brush.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that your eyeliner is not outdated. This can result it poor-lasting quality and will make it more difficult to apply.
