How to Use WS_FTP

WS_FTP is an application that allows you to log on to file transfer protocol (FTP) sites. This assists you in downloading free applications to your computer. In addition, you can upload files to another individual. This is important when you are sharing files with friends or family. You can also download several types of files from public resources. The FTP protocol downloads and uploads files quickly through a specific program such as WS_FTP.

Instructions

      Open the WS_FTP application. Your hard drive will display on the left side of the screen. A blank screen is on the right side.

      Click on the "Connect" button in the quick launch toolbar. Select the "Create Site" tab. A connection wizard will appear.

      Enter the "Site Name." This will allow you to identify the connection when you log on again. Press the "Next" button. Select the "FTP" connection type. Click "Next" again.

      Insert the FTP server address. This is the domain name (such as ftp.yourdomain.com) or the IP address (1.1.1.1) of the FTP site. Enter the "User" and "Password" that your FTP site provides. If the site is public or anonymous, use the name, "Anonymous" and password "Anonymous."

      Change the download folder. Search through your hard drive on the left side. Open your download folder by double-clicking.

      Select the file from the right side on the screen to transfer. The application will highlight it. Click the "Left Arrow" key to begin the download. The progress of the transfer will display at the bottom of the screen.

      Click the file from your computer to upload. Select a folder from the FTP site by double-clicking. Press the "Right Arrow" key to begin the transfer.

      Select the "Disconnect" button when your transfers are complete.
