How to Erase Pop-Up Ads

As computers become more affordable and Wi-Fi Internet is readily available in public places, people are more "wired" than ever, surfing the Internet for several hours every day. Unfortunately, increased Web traffic has led to increased Web competition, with many shady websites vying against more reputable ones. In the cutthroat world of Internet marketing, pop-up ads are utilized by many companies for increased exposure in the midst of competition. Such pop-up ads are annoying and unwelcome most of the time; unfortunately, adware programs that sneak onto a person's computer can made it hard to block or close certain pop-ups. The good news is a highly rated adware remover is available for free download to erase all those nasty pop-ups.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to Lavasoft.com. Mouse over to the button labeled "Products." This will bring up a drop-down list of options. Click on "Ad-Aware." This will take you to a new page.

    • 2

Determine what level of protection you need by consulting the listing of features on Lavasoft's website. If your main goal is pop-up removal, the free edition will work fine. According to Lavasoft, Ad-Aware's free version includes "Ad-Watch Live" to help delete and prevent adware and malware. But the free version does not include virus protection. In addition to worrying about advertisements, you should also look into virus protection if you do not already have it. While pop-ups are annoying, viruses can do great harm to your PC.

    • 3

Click on the download link for the protection level you choose. For the free edition, you will be able to download without inputting any personal information or credit card details.

    • 4
      Ad-Aware Installer.

Save your download to your computer's desktop, then double click on the install file. This file is typically labeled "Ad-AwareAE.exe." Follow onscreen prompts to complete the automatic install process.

    • 5
      Ad-Aware Installation Finished.

Click "Finish." This will automatically begin a check for Ad-Aware updates, then your computer will automatically restart, so make sure you have closed all other running programs before clicking "Finish."

    • 6

Open the newly installed Ad-Aware program once your computer has rebooted.

    • 7
      Ad-Aware Main Interface.

Click on the middle button on the main Ad-Aware interface labeled "Scan System." This will take you to a new set of options. By default, the scanner will be set on "Smart Scan," the ideal setting for most users.

    • 8

Click on "Scan Now" to begin an automatic scan for adware on your computer. When the scan is finished, you will be told how many malicious files were found, and you will be prompted to quarantine or remove the adware files, effectively erasing those pop-up adware programs from your computer.
