How to Use a Proxy in mIRC

mIRC Options

The mIRC program is a peer-to-peer application. You can chat with different individuals, share photos or download files. There are hundreds of channels to choose from, depending on your specific interests. A proxy is an Internet address that allows you to surf or use certain programs with privacy. When you use the Internet, your computer identity is vulnerable to advertising attacks as well as harmful material. Even though this is rare, it can still harm your computer. Using a proxy server prevents others from viewing your specific IP address.

Instructions

1. Double-click on the mIRC icon. Register mIRC for free or continue the evaluation. You can use the program for 30 days without registering.

2. View the mIRC options. A window will appear, "mIRC Options." Before connecting to a server, set up the proxy server.

3. Click on the "Connect" tab. Then select the "Firewall" option. Under the "Firewall" drop-down menu, select "None." Click on the "Proxy" option below the "Protocol" menu.

4. Go to a free proxy server website (see Resources). Choose a server from the available list. This is either in the form of an IP address (1.1.1.1) or a domain name (connect.com).

5. Enter the IP or domain proxy server address in the "Hostname" box. If the proxy server has a "User Name" or "Password," insert that next. Usually, free anonymous proxies do not require a user or pass code.

6. Insert the "Port" number. Most proxy servers require a port number. When you locate the server, the number after the colon is the port number. For example, 1.1.1.1:80, 80 is the port.

7. Click on the "Connect" option tab. Enter your "Name," "Email Address" and "Nickname." Then select the "OK" button.
