If you're like a lot of people and have hundreds of MP3s saved on your computer, you may be wondering about the best way to organize them. Organizing your MP3s makes it easy for you find them in the future, create themed play lists and keep your music collection more organized and under control. Luckily, organizing your MP3s is easy to do, and you'll be glad you did it next time you're searching for the perfect song.

From Quick Guide: Overview of Music Downloads
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Click "Start" on your desktop, and then choose "My Computer." Navigate to the place where your MP3s are saved---often "My Music." Click to open.

  2. Step 2

View all of your MP3 files. Right click in a blank space in the folder and choose "Create New Folder."

  3. Step 3

Rename any incorrectly named files by right clicking the file, choosing "Rename," typing in the new name and then pressing "Enter." Consistently name your files by the song name first and then the artist name, in this format, "Crocodile Rock---Elton John."

  4. Step 4

Name the folder. To organize your MP3s, you can type a folder name using the Artist's name, the album name, the music genre, even the year that it was released.

  5. Step 5

Once you've named the folder, start dragging and dropping files into the folder to organize them. Simply click and hold the MP3 you want, and then drag it over the folder icon and release. The MP3 will automatically be copied into the folder.

  6. Step 6

Organize folders for your easiest reference. When you want to play a certain folder, such as an entire Elton John folder, you can simply navigate to its location and then drag it into a music player, such as Window's Media Player, iTunes or RealPlayer.
