Instructions

    • 1

Take the package of cereal out of the box and place it in a plastic container.

    • 2

Cut out construction paper to fit each side of the box and glue it in place.

    • 3

Create a cereal title for the front of the box that gives the readers an idea of what the book was about. For example, if you are doing a report on a boy who survived in the forest, you might title your cereal "Wilderness Crunch."

    • 4

Draw a picture to show a scene from the book on the front of the cereal box under the title you choose.

    • 5

Write "Ingredients" on one side of the cereal box, and list things that happened in your book--period, setting, characters, problems and resolutions.

    • 6

Write "Nutritional Information" on the other side of the box and list a percentage of the following things the person will get from the book: action; humor; history; drama; suspense; vocabulary; mystery;and education. For example, if your book was about an Indiana Jones--type character, you might have "100% action, 40% humor, 10% drama, 100% suspense."

    • 7

Write a slogan that fits your book on the top back of the cereal box. Think about something that sounds like it fits with cereal, such as Tony the Tiger's "They're GREAT."

    • 8

Draw another scene from the book under that phrase.

    • 9

Think of something that would have been useful to one of the characters in your book. For example, if your book was about a boy surviving in the forest, you might come up with a plastic knife and fork. Place this prize inside the cereal box.

    • 10

Place your name on the bottom of the box.

Tips & Warnings

  • Paint the cereal box if you don't have any construction paper.

  • Choose a color that may go with your book if you can. For example, if you are reading a book about a boy who learned how to survive in the forest, you may want to use either green or brown construction paper. If you are reading about a woman who worked as a nurse to heal wounded soldiers, you could use a piece of red construction paper.
