Step 1
Make sure your DSL modem is connected to the wall outlet providing your DSL service via a coaxial cable. This should have been done by the technician who set up your DSL service, but it is something that is important to double-check. A coax cable should be screwed into the coax jack on your wall, while also screwing into the DSL modem via its coax jack. Make sure the modem is plugged into a wall outlet via its AC adapter.

Step 2
Connect the DSL modem left by the technician to your computer via an Ethernet cable. Take one end of the Ethernet cable and plug it into the back of the modem. Next, plug the other end of the cable into your computer's Ethernet port. The technician will next have to physically turn on the DSL service to your house--this isn't something you can do.

Step 3
Boot into Linux. Start your computer and boot into your Linux operating system.
-
Step 4
Select your DSL network. In the upper right hand corner of your desktop is a little "Networking" icon. Click on it, and select the DSL network you've just installed from the list. It will be the only network option available from the list, as its the only network available to your computer. Clicking on it will tell Linux to use that network.

Step 5
Open your web browser. Linux comes preinstalled with Firefox, so click on the Firefox icon to go online.
