How to Clean RAM

Cleaning up RAM usually begs the question: "What is RAM?" RAM is an acronym for random-access memory. The key to understanding why it needs to be cleaned or cleared is the keyword "random." A hard drive allocates memory in RAM randomly, with no allocation protocols. If the hard drive cannot find enough RAM for a high-draw program or application such as a video game, it will crash or freeze. This RAM cleaning trick will remove any nonactive data that might have been stored on your RAM instead of your hard drive. You should see a marked improvement regarding processing speed.

Instructions

    • 1

Exit out of any running applications, including your Internet browser.

    • 2

Open a new .txt file. Notepad is standard on all Windows PCs and should be accessible from the Start menu or by double clicking the Notepad icon on your desktop.

    • 3

Type the following code on the page: FreeMem=Space(128000000).

    • 4

Save the file to your desktop. When you save it, remove the .txt extension and save as ram_cleaner.vbs. The .vbs extension will turn the file into an application.

    • 5

Double click the ram_cleaner.vbs icon on your desktop. This will initiate a RAM reorganization and cleaning protocol that should be finished in a matter of seconds.

    • 6

Double click an application that uses a great deal of RAM such as a video game and see if the processing speed has improved.
