How to Operate a Galaxy Car Alarm

Galaxy alarms are available in one-way models, which send a command to the vehicle when a button is pressed, and two-way models, which send a command to the vehicle and then send a confirmation to the remote once the alarm has performed the action requested of it. Both one-way and two-way alarms operate in a similar manner.

Stand within the alarm's operational range and press the "lock" button. This button features a picture of a lock on it, and will lock the doors of the vehicle when pressed. This action also arms the alarm so that if the doors, hood or trunk are opened--or if the vehicle is struck with enough force to trigger the impact/shock sensor--the alarm's siren will sound and the vehicle's parking lights will flash.

While within the alarm's operational range, press the "unlock" button. This will silence the alarm and unlock the vehicle's doors. On some vehicles, only the driver's door will unlock, and a second press of the unlock button will be required to unlock the remaining doors.

With the alarm disarmed, press and hold the "trunk" button. This button has a picture of the rear end of a car on it, and will open the vehicle's trunk if the vehicle is equipped with a trunk-release button. This button may be programmed at the time of installation to operate other vehicle features if power-trunk release is impossible or undesired.

Know that some models of Galaxy alarms are offered with an option to remotely start the vehicle. Typically, the button that does this will have a picture of a key on it, and will require a two- to three-second press to activate. On two-way models, the remote will chirp to indicate a successful engine start.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are many features available with Galaxy alarms that must be programmed and hooked up at the time of installation. Consult your installer to find out which additional features have been installed in your car. Know what kind of battery your remote uses and have a spare on hand. Know the location of the alarm's valet switch. If the remote fails, you may use the valet switch to temporarily disable the alarm.
