Getting free money is something most people don't turn down, especially when the economy is in the dumps or they're struggling financially. People with Citi cards can use their card to earn extra cash through an incentive program. Individuals earn extra cash with 10 percent of every qualified purchase they make. The program does not have any fees, and members don't actually receive the cash back as a credit to their statement or a deposit to their bank account. Instead, the cash is available for use in purchasing discounted items.

Things You'll Need:

  • Citi Card
  1. Step 1

Register with the website. Citi cards maintain a separate website to manage the extra cash program; you need to register to claim and use your extra cash. When registering, enter your personal information as well as the account number on your Citi card. This is how your extra cash is tracked.

  2. Step 2

Browse the selection of products available. Extra cash can be spent on airline tickets, hotel accommodations, gift cards, DVDs and more. In addition, special items are featured each day on the website, which are at an even more discounted price than traditionally, so it's often worth it to check it out.

  3. Step 3

Add an item to your cart. Just like shopping with other stores online, extra cash from Citi offers a shopping cart where you place the items you want until you're ready to check out. For example, if you want to cash in on a $50 gift card to Macy's, you can put it in your shopping cart and continue browsing for other things you want to get as well.

  4. Step 4

Checkout when you're finished shopping. Once you have everything you want in your shopping cart, you can proceed to the checkout. You need to enter the location where you want your items shipped as well as a credit card that can be billed for the amount not covered by your extra cash. Only a certain percentage, ranging anywhere from 5 to 50 percent, of the price of an item can be covered by your extra cash. You must pay the difference. For example, you may find a DVD for $10 with your extra cash covering 50 percent. This leaves you to pay the additional $5.

Tips & Warnings
  • You have one final chance to review your order after entering your shipping address and payment information. However, once you place your order, it can't be changed or canceled.
