If you love making jewelry, set up a jewelry business to make some extra cash. The Internet is a great way to set up a jewelry business with little or no money down. There are many websites that allow you to start selling your jewelry, only charge a small listing fee and take only a small percentage of your profit. This is by far the easiest way to set up a jewelry business.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Jewelry
  • Camera
  • Website
  • Gift boxes, variety of sizes
  • Labels
  • Clear bags
  1. Step 1

Sign up for a store on any selling community website such as Etsy, eBay or icraft (see Resources). Follow the on-screen directions to set up your store.

  2. Step 2

Take clear photographs of each piece of jewelry without packaging. You may want to have a friend model the jewelry pieces, while you take a close-up photo of the area of the body wearing the piece. For example, if you are photographing a necklace, you would want to take a picture of the neck area only--the same for a ring on the hand or a bracelet on the wrist. Consider taking additional photographs after packaging the item, so customers are aware of how the item is packaged in order to adjust their gift wrapping needs accordingly.

  3. Step 3

Give each piece of jewelry a name and write a description of the item. Explain what materials were used to make it, and why you have given it the chosen name. Use this description and name for the information in your website listing, but also make a small print out of the information to include with the jewelry piece in the packaging.

  4. Step 4

Price your jewelry accordingly. You should factor in the cost of the materials used and the time it took you to make each piece. Make a small price tag to include with the jewelry in the packaging.

  5. Step 5

Package the jewelry in labeled gift boxes with clear lids. You may also want to place the gift boxes into clear bags to provide extra protection during shipment.

  6. Step 6

List your items on your website store by following the onscreen directions on the website you have chosen.

  7. Step 7

Advertise your store by hanging fliers on bulletin boards at local stores. Start a blog about jewelry business. Include links to each piece of jewelry you have for sale on your store. Chat in message boards with friends about jewelry and include your store website address in your signature line.
