Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the washing machine before you start to do any type of work on it. Even though you won't be messing with electrical components while installing a new agitator, it's best to be on the safe side and work on the machine while it's unplugged.

    • 2

Lift off the cap on top of the washing machine's agitator that is used for the fabric softener. If it doesn't easily lift off you may have to pry it off with a screwdriver. Be careful not to stab yourself in the hand while you're prying the cap off.

    • 3

Unscrew the screw that is underneath the fabric softener cap. This should easily be accomplished by using a screwdriver or wrench, depending on what's installed on the top of the agitator.

    • 4

Remove the old agitator by slipping a long thick rope underneath one side of the bottom of the agitator and over a broom handle. Continue slipping the rope underneath the opposite side of the agitator and over the broom handle again. Pull on the rope and broom handle with a bit of force until the agitator pops free from the base of the washing machine's tub.

    • 5

Replace the old agitator with a new one. The new one should snap in place where the old one was fitted on in the inside of the tub. Screw the screw in place on top of the agitator and replace the fabric softener cap. Your new agitator is now installed and ready to be put into action.
