Create Door Hangers

A door hanger can be used for many things. They are often used for advertisements, but they can also be used to leave messages such as, "Do not disturb." They can show whose room you may be entering. It can show someone's schedule or other information.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator (optional)
  • Printer
  • Marker/Colored Pencils (optional)
  • Images (digital or photographs)
  1. Step 1

Draw or download a door hanger template. There is a link to a free template in the References section. Open your template either in Adobe Photoshop or in Adobe Illustrator. You can also print it out and create your door hanger by hand.

  2. Step 2

Choose what color would work best for the purpose of your design. For Adobe Illustrator, select your shape and select a color in your color palette. For Adobe Photoshop, use your magic wand tool and select inside the shape. Select a color from your color palette and use your paint bucket tool. Drop your color in the selection. If you have printed it out, use markers or colored pencils.

  3. Step 3

Create your text. Use a font that will work best for your design.

  4. Step 4

Use imagery for your design. For Photoshop users, digital images can be brought in and added to the design. For Illustrator users, vector images can be used or created. If the door hanger is being created by hand, a collage can be created with cut-out images or pictures. When you finish this step (after printing it out on regular paper or card stock for those using computer programs), your door hanger is done and ready to be hung!
