An aisle runner adds a touch of class and sophistication to any wedding. Aisle runners can also help keep the bride's gown clean. Unfortunately, the aisle runner also has a tendency to wrinkle as your bridal party walks over it, creating a trip hazard as well. If you're having an outdoor wedding, there's even more reason to worry about the aisle runner as it might blow away or get twisted in the wind. Weighing down the runner will help ensure that your walk down the aisle goes smoothly.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Aisle Runner
  1. Step 1

Plan your entrance. Setting up your aisle runner in advance gives you a chance to do a quick walk through to make sure it stays in place. Your guests will also be able to notice any decorative elements on the runner, such as a quote or monogram, while they walk on it.

  2. Step 2

Choose your fabric carefully. The aisle runner can be weighed down by your fabric choice. Use a stiff, heavy fabric if you are worried about your walk down the aisle. This will also make it easier to unroll.

  3. Step 3

Stick with your theme. Weigh down your aisle runner with decorative elements that help tie together your wedding. For a beach wedding, try large shells. If you have a nighttime ceremony, weigh your runner down with large battery-operated candles. Place the weights where they will be out of the general walking path and so your guests don't trip over them. Space the decorations on either side of the runner at different intervals down the aisle.

  4. Step 4

Go floral. Flowers are common decorations for weddings. Using flowers as weights ensures your guests will only notice the beauty of the aisle runner instead of the function. Use low-to-the-ground floral arrangements like flower balls or small topiaries. Place rocks in the bottom of the pots so they don't blow over.

  5. Step 5

Tape it down. Talk to your location director about how to weigh down the aisle runner. The facility may allow you to place double-stick tape on the bottom of the runner to keep it in place. This might damage some types of flooring, so discuss this option with the location management first.
