this is what most plants bought from a hardware store,nurserie.....blablabla...will look like.

first you need a rosemary plant, luckily they are easy to find at most hard ware stores, nurseries, and of course the garden section at wal-mart so finding a nice plant should be easy. pick one with a nice woody trunk,a nice shape, plenty of branches, and just looks over all healthy. for example no yellow or brown leaves,no stems or branches that have been snapped in half, and a healthy rosemary should have a strong piney smell(a rosemary...ey smell?)

  2. Step 2

once you have your plant you can start clipping its foliage.clear leaves away from the trunk and the base of the branches to get a nice outline, then start clipping off branches that aren't part of the design you're going for.remember this is your tree make it look how you like.

  3. Step 3

now you're ready for potting it up in a bonsai pot or a shallow terra cotta pot.the choice is yours but it should compliment the tree in both shape and color. first remove the tree from its current pot remove some soil from the top to expose a few of the surface roots.then remove some soil from the bottom to get it to fit into its new pot.

now you have a rockin sockin rosemary bonsai and you made it in three easy steps. now just keep it in bright sunlight let it dry out a little between wateing.and protect it in winter if the winter is harsh in your area and it should do great!

Tips & Warnings
  • pinch back new growth inorder to keep the plant compact
  • you can use the clippings from your new bonsai in cooking,or as do just eat them plain i love the taste of rosemary
  • you can wait a week or two to put the plant into a bonsai pot so that it can recover from the initial shaping.
  • rosemary doesn't like its roots to be messed with that much so when you're potting it be careful
  • rosemary doesn't like the soil to be too wet so dont overwater or you may kill it
