Searching for shark teeth can be great fun. It can also be super frustrating when you don't know how to find them!

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Beach
  • Eyes!
  1. Step 1

Pick a beach. If you are really serious about searching for shark teeth, you will probably want to go to a beach that is known for its shark teeth. If you are not willing to travel very far, then just pick a beach that is closest to you. You may not find any or many shark teeth at a beach that isn't known for shark teeth, but it is possible.

  2. Step 2

Get to the beach early in the morning. You want to be the very first person on the beach. The early bird gets the worm, as they say. Lots of people hit up the beach in the early morning hours to collect the pretty shells and shark teeth that wash up over night. Get there early enough so that you can be that person.

  3. Step 3

You will need to know what it is you are looking for. Obviously you are looking for shark teeth. But you need to know what one looks like. Most of them are black and pointy, and have a slight "Y" shape to them. Lots of rocks and shells will look like shark teeth, so you just need to know what exactly you are looking for.

  4. Step 4

Walk down the beach and walk along the water's edge. Many of the shark teeth you will find will be along that line.

  5. Step 5

Look for patches of broken shells and such in the sand. Those patches will most likely contain shark teeth. One day, I actually found over 300 shark teeth just from patches like these.

  6. Step 6

If you can't find any near the water's edge or in the patches of broken shells, move up the beach, more into the sand. Sometimes there are some up there!

  7. Step 7

If you still haven't found any, the beach you are at just might not get very many shark teeth. Try the same beach again right after a storm. Storms tend to stir up the stuff at the bottom of the ocean and will bring lots of shark teeth and shells to the beach. If you don't find any after THAT, you may need to find a different beach. There are LOTS of beaches that are known for their abundance in shark teeth. A quick Google search will be able to tell you of beaches near you.
