Whether you are tracking your finances and stocks that you have already invested, or you are practicing for the day you will start investing, Google Finance is an easy to use and free program in order to do so.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • Google account
  1. Step 1

-- Sign Up or Sign In --

If you do not have an account with Google, you can sign up for free (link for account set up located in the resources section under New Google Accounts). If you already have an account, just sign in.

  2. Step 2

-- Navigate to the Finance Page --

Once you are signed in, you need to navigate to the Finance section of Google by clicking the link located at the top left hand of your page called “more” and going down the link that says “Finance.”

  3. Step 3

    -- Portfolios --

Now you can navigate over to your portfolios page by clicking the link at the top right hand part of the page where it says “Portfolios.”

  4. Step 4

    -- My Portfolio --

Add any and all companies you are interested in buying or have stock in. You can do this by typing in the name of the company or the ticker symbol in the search box located at the top of the page. On the results page you can find all the information you need in order to do your research and due diligence. If you want to track the stock, click the “Add to Portfolio” link located next to the name of the company near the top of the page, right under the search box. Repeat this step until you have all the companies you need.

  5. Step 5

-- Buying and Selling the Stock --

On the main portfolio page, buy the amount of shares you wish to purchase, or have purchased, and the price per share in the boxes located under the “transactions” tab. Google Finance will now track your earnings for these stocks. You may also sell part or all of the shares of each stock whenever you need to.
