Step 1
First, think about your business contacts. Do you know anyone in the business card printing, copying, or office supply business? If so, you may be able to work on trade. Working on trade, or bartering, is great for both parties because both parties get something they want, yet no cash is exchanged. For example, if you are a massage therapist, you can trade a couple of massage sessions for some business cards. Or, if you are an electrician, you can trade some work for business cards. Think about what you can offer on trade.
-
Step 2
Join local and online business groups. You will meet new people, possibly someone who does business card printing, who you may be able to exchange services with. Sometimes, owners of printing shops will give away a freebie to new members of their local business groups. If you have a brick and mortar location, a printer may agree to make business cards for you if you put their ad or flyers in your business location, helping them advertise.
-
Step 3
If you can’t find another business person to barter with, Google FREE BUSINESS CARDS. There are many websites that offer free business cards, such as VistaPrint and BizCard. These deals are usually for the basic business card design with no upgrades. You may only have to pay a small shipping fee, but the cards and printing services are free.
-
Step 4
Watch your snail mail for office supply specials, gift cards, and coupons. When you start a new business and register for a business license, somehow you end up on everyone’s mailing list. Be sure to open those Staples, Office Depot, and Office Max envelopes that look like junk mail. Sometimes they have offers for free printing services, or introductory offers for new businesses.
-
Step 5
Make your own business cards. Search on the internet for free layouts for business cards or check your desktop publishing program for business card design layouts. You can print them out yourself. They won’t look as professional, but it is much cheaper than spending $50 on business cards. When you are first starting a business, there are so many expenses, free business cards are one way to cut some corners.
