Ease Constipation in Your Dog or Cat

Some tips and tricks to relieve constipation in your dog or cat:

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Holistically speaking, try lavender essential oil diluted half and half with peanut or olive oil. Smear a bit where your pet cannot lick it off - back of the neck is a good choice or on the ears.

  2. Step 2

Add between 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of olive oil to your pet’s food.

  3. Step 3

Add fiber to your pet’s diet - Oat Bran or non-flavored Metamucil. For cats and dogs under 15 pounds use 1/2 teaspoon. For dogs 15-50 pounds give 1 teaspoon. For dogs over 50 pounds give 1 tablespoon.

  4. Step 4

Take your pet for a walk or give them some exercise to get their plumbing moving. A minimum of 20 to 30 minutes twice a day is beneficial. However, older pets with physical problems may require less.

  5. Step 5

Give them plenty of water. If necessary add water to their dry food. Some cats will also drink more if the water is dripping from a faucet.

  6. Step 6

Cats can get constipated from swallowing hair during grooming, so do the grooming for them, preventing them from ingesting loose hair.

  7. Step 7

Try Activia Yogurt to balance your pet’s digestive system. My dog loves it!
