This article will explain how to place a shortcut on your Windows Desktop

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Windows
  1. Step 1

    Open My Computer. Follow one of these procedures to accomplish this.
    1. From Start Menu, Select My Computer.
    2. Press the Windows key (picture of the windows logo) and the E key at the same time.
    3. Right click on the Start button, select Explore

  2. Step 2

    You will need to find the program that you want to create a shortcut for. Search through the Folders. Most programs are in the Program Files.
    Or you can select the search button from the My Computer toolbar.

    If the program is listed in your Start, All Programs, then you can go to the program listed in the menu and perform the next step.

    For example if you wanted to put a shortcut of the Windows Calculator on the desktop. You would have to go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and find calc.exe

    Or, you can go to Start, All Programs, Accessories and find the calculator icon and name.

  3. Step 3

    Once you have found the program file you will need to right click on it.
    This will bring up a menu, move the mouse over "Send To" on the menu. This will bring up a sub menu. click on the menu item "Desktop (create shortcut)"

    The shortcut to your program will now be on the Windows Desktop.

  4. Step 4

    The shortcut will now be on your desktop for you to use.
