Step 1
Good heavy padded boxes are a must. Boxes from computers or electronics are great to use. You can purchase commercial dish packing boxes as well. Another alternative is using a good sturdy plastic storage tote.
-
Step 2
Wrap all breakables in bubble wrap, newspaper, tissue, or kitchen dishcloths and towels (you need to pack them anyway). When packing fragile stemware, stuff them with tissue paper or plastic grocery bags.
-
Step 3
Plates should be packed standing on their sides with paper in-between each plate. Cups and glasses should be packed with the open end facing down. Use plenty of packing material to cushion each item.
-
Step 4
Pack the box tightly. Stuff towels or extra paper in all areas so the items cannot move. If you have packing peanuts you can use them for extra cushioning.
-
Step 5
Start with the heavier items in the bottom of the box. Layer items as needed. Wrap bigger items with newspaper and secure with packing tape for even more protection.
-
Step 6
Clearly label all boxes "fragile" and "kitchen" for movers and handlers to see.
