Fried shrimp with beer batter makes a great appetizer for a barbecue, or a delicious main dish in its own right. Server beer battered shrimp with lemon butter sauce and watch the juicy seafood morsels disappear.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • beer
  • flour
  • spices
  • shrimp, prawns, or bit-sized fish
  • oil
  • ~~~~~~
  • butter and lemon juice for dipping
  1. Step 1

Prepare the beer batter at least 2 hours in advance. For every 1 lb of shrimp or seafood, you will need 2 cups of beer and 2 cups of flour. To season, add 1/2 tsp each of: salt, pepper, paprika, and onion powder for every 2 cups of flour. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours.

  2. Step 2

Thaw, peel, and de-vein the shrimp. Jumbo shrimp and larger prawns are ideal for this recipe, but you can also fry smaller shrimp, or even bite-sized pieces of cod and halibut.

  3. Step 3

Heat 1 to 2 inches of oil in a large enough pot.

  4. Step 4

Roll shrimp in flour, dip into beer batter, and drop in the oil for 5 to 7 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Lay the fried pieces beer battered shrimp on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Serve with a dipping sauce made from 2 tbsp lemon juice and 1 stick of melted butter. Enjoy!
