How to Prevent Gnat Bites Naturally
Gnats can be as irritating and pervasive as mosquitoes, and just as hard to eradicate. To prevent gnat bites it may seem easiest to just soak yourself in a DEET-based insecticide, but if you are trying to reduce your chemical exposure this isn't the best option. There are a number of natural ways to prevent gnat bites that are just as easy but may take more planning.

First, realize that gnats are a large family of bugs and there are many types. Some gnats don't even bite. Sometimes people use the term gnat to describe no-see-ums, black flies, and biting midges. If you can figure out what type of gnat you have it will be easier to get rid of the conditions they breed in or avoid them.

Avoid areas that gnats inhabit, such as shady, moist areas.

Don't create a breeding ground for gnats. Don't over water your garden or allow moist plant waste to accumulate near heavily trafficked areas in your yard.

Go outside on windy days. Gnats can't land on you in even a slight breeze.
