Rainbows and flowers are both beautiful, so why not combine them in your yard by creating a rainbow made of flowers. A flower rainbow is a great way to add bright colours to your yard. It can also be a great conversation starter during your summer bbqs. A rainbow flower garden is pretty easy to make with a little effort.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • flowers in a variety of colors, preferably the colors of a rainbow
  • top soil
  • string
  • sticks
  • gardening tools, such as shovel and rake.
  1. Step 1

Choose a location. If you are building a flower rainbow in your garden you will want to have a great location so that you and visitors can enjoy it. A good place for your flower rainbow would be along the edge of your yard, near a boundary fence, next to a patio or deck or next to the house.

  2. Step 2

Make a slanted area to plant the flowers. The best way to view your flower rainbow is if it is on a slope. This will fully display the shape and colors of the rainbow. To do this you will need a garden shovel to move dirt around. You will also need to add some top soil to get the right shape.

  3. Step 3

Decide what flowers you want to plant in your rainbow garden. This is really up to your personal preferences. I personally think daisies are a good choice because they come in great colours and shapes. Plus daisies are hardy and don't need a lot of special care. Pick flowers in the colors of the rainbow, including red, orange, yellow and violet. The hardest colors to get will be green and blue. For green you could use a green non-flowering plant. You can find blue daisies, or daisies that are close to blue. If you want a spring rainbow garden try planting tulips.

  4. Step 4

Measure out and shape your rainbow. The next step in building your flower rainbow is to create the shape. To do this use some string and sticks. Decide how wide you want each section of color to be and section it off with string, shaping it into an arch.

  5. Step 5

Plant your flowers. When you are happy with the shape of your rainbow plant your flowers in the appropriate color order.

Tips & Warnings
  • Put your rainbow on a slope to get the best viewing angel
  • Use daisies because they come in many colors and are easy to care for
