Instructions

    • 1

Pick ribbons that you are going to use for the barrettes/clips along with a coordinating embellishment. You will use one embellishment per bow. If you do not want to use an embellishment, you can use a small piece of ribbon. These will be used to decorate the center of the bow and to cover up your tie.

    • 2

Place newspaper down on your work place so that you don't drip hot glue onto it. Plug in your glue gun to let it warm up.

    • 3

Select a clip or barrette in an appropriate size for the child who will be wearing it.

    • 4

Determine what the size bow to use. Put your index and middle finger together for a small bow, add your ring finger for a medium bow and add your pinkie for a large. Pick up the ribbon and hold it under your thumb while you wrap it around the fingers needed for the desired size. Wrap the ribbon around enough times to create the thickness that you are looking for. Two times is sufficient for most ribbons but stiffness and personal preference will cause a variance in this step.

    • 5

Hold the ribbon with the opposite hand and release your fingers. If the ribbons have slipped apart, put them back together with your thumbs and index fingers. Then, press the center down and wrap your twist tie around it. Twist it sufficiently then cut the ends off.

    • 6

Lay the twist down flat on the ribbon and glue your embellishment over it. If you have decided to use ribbon, wrap it once around the bow vertically, trim it to fit and hot glue it down.

    • 7

Glue the bow to the barrette or clip and let it cool before wearing.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your eyes out for new, fun, and bright colored ribbons.

  • Use any leftover ribbons to wrap on gifts or to use as bookmarks.

  • Keep in mind that touching the tip of a hot glue gun can burn you.

  • Ejected hot glue needs to cool for several minutes to prevent burns.

  • Keep scissors and hot glue out of the reach of young children.
