How to Make a Glamorous Ponytail

A ponytail is an easy hairstyle-- just gather your hair, put on an elastic band and go -- but sometimes it can be too casual for a particular event. With a little more time and effort, you can make a glamorous ponytail. Smooth ponytails that lay close to your neck, instead of high on your head, lend a sophisticated air that will carry you from work to happy hour to dinner.

Things You'll Need

• Shampoo and conditioner
• Blow dryer
• Heat-protection lotion
• Comb and brush
• Smoothing creme
• Pomade
• Elastic band (size depending on the thickness of your hair)
• Bobby pins
• Finishing hair spray

Instructions

1. Shampoo and condition your hair as normal. Blow-dry your hair straight using a heat-protection lotion to prevent heat damage.

2. Squeeze a dollop of light pomade in your hand and run it through your hair. Brush your hair back, making sure you smooth bumps and tame stray hairs.

3. Wrap the elastic band around the hair near the nape of your neck.

4. Part the ponytail into two sections. Wrap one section around the elastic band and hide its end under wrap with bobby pins. Allow other section to hang down.

5. Set hair with a finishing hair spray.
