1
First send out invitations to see how many people are going to be at your child's birthday party. With the number of people counted up, be sure to have more food for the adults then the children, parents get hungry too!
-
2
Based on your child's age, plan a theme for the party. Girls love anything princess (depending on the age), boy's love anything army or robots. The best way to choose is to just go by whatever their favorite toy is or favorite TV show.

3
Prepare activities; If your budget allows and you have room in your yard, rent a jumpy blow up castle or fun house from your local party shop. If not for girls you can do a craft' s activity, there are lots of ideas for crafts on the web! For boys do a contest to see who is the fastest, who can jump the furthest, who can jump the highest (boys are competitive at any age).

4
Decide what kind of food to prepare, the favorites are cupcakes, pigs in a blanket, crackers and cheese, and veggie plate for the parents! Make the arrangement nice and inviting so that people will actually eat the food and you won't get stuck with tons of leftovers!
-
5
Most importantly make sure your child feels special, get party favors like blow whistles and things that make noise (parents hate it, but kids love it) make a big deal out of the day being for them. AND HAVE FUN, DON'T GET MAD WHEN THEY WANT TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT FROM WHAT YOU HAVE PLANNED! Kids are spontaneous and want to do things their way, save the discipline and constant corrections for days other than their birthday!
