Father's Day Gift Idea

Footprints and handprints are fun ways to make a homemade Father's Day gift or card. Making a print of a hand or foot and using a poem is a piece of art all dads will treasure. Here are several ways to make and use handprint and footprint poems for dad's special day.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a daddy footprint or handprint poem. There are several available on websites after a quick search.

  2. Step 2

Fold a piece of construction paper or cardstock in half to make a card.

  3. Step 3

Pour a bit of craft paint onto a paper plate.

  4. Step 4

Use a foam brush to apply paint to child's foot or hand.

  5. Step 5

Press hand or foot to the paper and make a print on the outside of the card. Use both hands or feet is desired. Let the paint dry.

  6. Step 6

Print the poem on the inside of the card.

  7. Step 7

For multiple children, use a photo frame that holds several photos. Print the poem and insert into one photo slot. Make a footprint for each child on paper the same size as the photo frame insert. When completed the poem and a footprint for each child will be in one framed gift.

  8. Step 8

Take a photo of the child's feet and have the photo printed with the poem typed on it.

  9. Step 9

Make a garden stone with an imprint of the child's hands or feet. Use paint to write the poem on the front or pack of the stone. Use a smaller stone to make a paperweight for Dad's desk.

  10. Step 10

Paint a wooden plaque and place the footprints on it. Print the poem and decoupage it to the plaque.

Tips & Warnings
  • Washable ink or child's paint may also be used to make the footprints and handprints.
  • Be sure to date the artwork.
  • For multiple children, use different color paint and wait for one to dry before layering another print.
