The MacBook Air is advertised by Apple as the world's thinnest notebook because of its lack of a CD drive and peripheral ports, such as an Ethernet port. As such, the 3-lb., less-than--inch thick MacBook Air is meant to be highly portable and connect to wireless networks. The laptop connects to wireless connections in a way similar to Apple's other laptops.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Click on the AirPort icon on the top bar if your MacBook Air does not connect automatically when you turn it on. It will give you a list of wireless networks.

  2. Step 2

Select a wireless network, or choose either "Join Other Network," which will allow you to call up a network you know of in the area and connect to it, or "Create Network," which will allow you to create a computer-to-computer network.

  3. Step 3

Choose or enter the name of the wireless network you wish to join, and enter a network password, if prompted.

  4. Step 4

    Use your wireless connection.
