How to Get Mace Off of You

Mace can be used to control an unruly crowd or as a self-defense mechanism. Hopefully, you will never have to worry about being sprayed with mace. If that time ever does come, however, you may feel like the mace will not come off of your skin. Using regular hand or body soap will cover up the mace but will not do much to remove the mace. By following the steps listed below, you can get mace off of your skin and feel like yourself again.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any clothing that was sprayed by mace. You should then wash those clothes separate from clothes not affected by mace.

    • 2

Rinse the area of your skin affected by the mace thoroughly. Use a hose, such as one at your kitchen sink, or your shower to rinse the area. You will want to rinse the area for about five minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water so that you're not too hot or cold while rinsing.

    • 3

Mix roughly one cup of vinegar with one cup of baking soda. You can have more or less of both items depending on how much of your skin is affected by the mace.

    • 4

Dip a dish towel into the mixture. Then gently pat the area of skin affected by mace. Don't rub the area as doing so will rub the mace into your skin. Do this a few times to ensure that you get the entire area saturated by the mixture.

    • 5

Repeat Step 2, rinsing off the vinegar and baking soda from your skin.
