If you have some iTunes M4P files on your computer you can convert those M4P format files into other files types so that they are more compatible with other devices. To convert M4P format files you will need to have an audio converter program that supports the M4P format. There are several M4P converter programs available with the Tune4Win M4P Converter being the most popular on the CNET Download Center. You can use the Tune4Win M4P Converter to easily convert your M4P format files.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tune4Win M4P Converter
  1. Step 1

Download and install the Tune4Win M4P Converter. Visit the CNET Download Center (see Resources) to download and install the Tune4Win M4P Converter. It is free to download and try out but you will need to pay to keep it. Other M4P converters available include the Tune4Mac M4P Converter, the DRM Converter and the TunePat M4P Converter.

  2. Step 2

Set up the virtual CD-RW. The first time you use the Tune4Win M4P Converter you will be told to set up a virtual CD-RW burner. Do this by selecting "Tune4Win Virtual CD-RW" as the CD burner in your media player program. This eliminates the need for an actual CD burner.

  3. Step 3

Select the output file type. Click the "Settings" button to select your file output type. Choices are: MP3, WMA and WAV. You can also select your output folder on the "Settings" screen. Click "OK" when done.

  4. Step 4

Select the M4P files. Switch back to your media player program and drag and drop your playlist to the screen of your media player program or select the M4P files that you want to convert by creating a new playlist.

  5. Step 5

Convert the M4P file. While in the media player program, burn your playlist to disc. This will burn it to the virtual Tune4Win drive. You can watch the progress of the M4P conversion in the Tune4Win screen. The "Status" column will read as "Complete" when the playlist conversion is complete. Once all of the playlists say complete you will be able to use the newly converted files.
