Step 1
Locate the fuel filter of your Honda Civic on the driver's side of the engine near the firewall and undo the larger bolt on top of the filter with an open-end wrench. Detach the fuel line from the top of the filter. Keep the copper washers that are attached to the line.
-
Step 2
Spray the bolt on the bottom of the fuel filter with WD-40 to loosen it up and then loosen the lower bolt with an open-end wrench. Detach the fuel line from the bottom of the fuel filter.
-
Step 3
Detach the fuel filter bracket that holds the filter to the firewall by undoing the bolt with a socket wrench. Remove the fuel filter from the bracket and dispose of the old filter.
-
Step 4
Slide the new fuel filter back onto the bracket and attach the bracket to the firewall. Attach the fuel line to the bottom of the fuel filter and secure by tightening the lower bolt of the filter.
-
Step 5
Place the copper washer on top of the fuel filter and attach the fuel line to the top bolt by hand tightening it to get it started. Tighten the bolt on top with an open-end wrench to secure the fuel line.
-
Step 6
Start the engine of your Honda Civic to prime the fuel filter and then check the filter for any signs of leaks. If the filter is leaking, turn the engine off, reseat the copper washers and try again until the leaking stops.
