How to Make Oven-Baked French Toast
Got a crowd coming for breakfast? Oven-baked French toast is a labor-free way to serve the gang without having to fry each piece of toast individually. In fact, you can make most of it the night before and just pop it in the oven in the morning. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Things You'll Need
- 1 loaf French bread or challah
- 8 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 cup cream or half-and-half
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- Topping:
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, tightly packed
- 2 tbsp. corn syrup
- 9x13 baking dish
- Small bowl
- Whisk
- Optional:
- 1/2 cup ground almond or hazelnuts
- 2 tsp. orange extract or orange liqueur

Making the French Toast

Heavily butter a large baking dish. Arrange the bread slices in the pan in a single layer. You will have to overlap them a bit to make them all fit.

Combine eggs, milk, cream and vanilla in a small bowl. Beat well.

Pour evenly over the slices of bread. If you'd like, you can add 2 tsps. orange extract or orange liqueur to the egg mixture. Refrigerate overnight.

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. While the oven is heating, melt the butter, sugar, and orn syrup in a small pan. Mix well. If you want, add chopped nuts to the topping.

Pour the topping over the slices of bread and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

Serve hot with butter and maple syrup.
