Things You'll Need:
- 5 yards tulle netting, 72 inches wide
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Straight pins
- Sewing machine
- 4 yards satin ribbon, 5/8 inches wide
- Sewing needle
- Thread
- 10-inch wood embroidery hoop
- Jigsaw or handsaw
- Clear packing tape
- Plant hook
-
Step 1
Measure the length of the tulle netting and cut it in half, so that you have two pieces that are each 2 1/2 yards long. Fold the width edge of one piece 1/4 inch and pin. Turn the pinned edge over another 2 inches and pin again. Repeat for the other tulle netting piece. Top-stitch the pinned edge to form a casing. Top stitch again, 1/4 inch in, along the top of the casing.
-
Step 2
Measure and cut the ribbon into four equal 1-yard pieces. Fold over one end of the ribbon 1/2 inch and pin to the left, front side of tulle. Pin another ribbon at the center of the casing. Top-stitch the ribbons to attach them to the casing. Pin the remaining two ribbons to the left and middle of the casing on the other piece of tulle. These are the ribbons you will use to hang the bassinet tent from the ceiling.
-
Step 3
Discard the outer ring off of the embroidery hoop. Cut the other ring open with a jigsaw or a small handsaw. Thread the cut edge of the embroidery hoop through the casing of both tulle tent pieces, with the "wrong" side of the casing facing inside the ring. Wrap clear packing tape around the embroidery hoop's cut opening to secure it closed. Adjust the gathers so that the ribbons are evenly spaced around the ring.
-
Step 4
Screw the plant hook into the ceiling above the bassinet. Ask someone to help you hold the bassinet tent or ring above the bassinet and tie all four ribbons together in an overhand knot at the desired distance from the ceiling to the ring. Hook the ribbon knot over the plant hook to hang. Arrange the tent around the bassinet and allow the excess to puddle on the floor.
