How to Set Up a Calendar for Paying Bills
Nobody likes paying bills, but it's a part of life. It can be made easier, however, by scheduling reminders in your email program's calendar. Then you never have to fret about what day the gas bill's due or whether you remembered to make your car payment.
If you aren't comfortable with technology, you can set up these calendar reminders on a physical calendar.

1
Make a list of all your recurring bills. Include the dates they're due, how much they're for (unless the balance varies) and where you pay the bill, such as a bill-pay website or a physical address.
-
2
Determine if any of your bills are due at similar times. Paying bills can be easier if you only have to think about it once or twice a month. You might be able to pay each of your bills on either the 1st or 15th of each month.

3
Open your email program. While email programs, such as Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, Safari and Outlook Express, may vary, they all contain similar features, including a calendar.
-
4
Open the calendar feature and click on the date that you want to schedule a bill-pay reminder. Title the event something like "Pay Macy's, utility and car-payment bills."
-
5
Add the other details, such as how much they're for and where you can pay the bill to the description section of the calendar entry.
-
6
Determine how you want your email program to remind you of this upcoming "event." Typically, you can choose to have it email you the reminder or open a pop-up window on your computer screen. Don't forget to also schedule what time you want it to remind you.

Tips & Warnings
Some email programs may also allow you to send a text message to your cell phone if you prefer to be reminded that way. Do a test-run first if you've never used your email program's calendar function before. Simply create an "event" that is occurring in five minutes, set the appropriate reminder and wait for it to pop up.
