Air Force Tuition Assistance is a program offered by the United States Air Force. It will pay the tuition and fees for anyone on active duty in the Air Force that is taking college courses. The program is an opportunity for members of the Air Force to pursue a higher education free of charge.

Instructions

  1. Applying for Tuition Assistance

    • 1

Create a username and password at the Air Force Portal website (see Resources). Once you have registered a username, log in.

    • 2

Access the online Tuition Assistance request form. The form may be found in the "Applications" section, a link to which will be on the right side of the page.

    • 3

Under "Enrollment Reason," select the option that best explains why you are applying to the Tuition Assistance program. The different options for applying are to pursue your Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) degree, your civilian degree, both your CCAF degree and civilian degree, or to pursue completion in a certification or licensing program.

    • 4

Select the name of the school you are going to from the provided list. If your school is not listed, you cannot register online and you must obtain a physical form from your local base education office.

    • 5

Enter the dates of the academic term you wish to enroll in. Failure to note the exact beginning and end date of the school's term will result in your Tuition Assistance request being rejected.

    • 6

Enter your course information. You may either select from the provided courses or, if your specific course is not listed, enter it manually.

    • 7

Enter the registration fees your school requires, and select what type of fee it is from the drop down menu. The different types of fees that the Tuition Assistance program covers are tuition, lab fees, enrollment fees, special fees and computer fees.

    • 8

Double-check and verify that the information you have provided is correct, and then submit the form. Your request will be sent to the local education center where your application will be reviewed and either approved or rejected.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will receive notification if your application is approved. Send a copy of your approval form to the school you will be attending. Although the Air Force will pay up to 100 percent of your tuition and fees, there is a cap of $250 per semester credit hour. If your request is rejected, contact your local education center for information on an appeal.

  • If you are planning to enroll in a post-masters course, be aware that the Air Force does not offer the Tuition Assistance program for those courses.
