How to Create JPEG Files
JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) files save space because they compress image sizes while reducing image quality. They are thus commonly used online, where smaller images are transmitted more quickly. The procedures we will be discussing apply to all image programs in general, and specifically to Adobe Photoshop.

2
Choose "New" from the "File" menu to create a new document window, which automatically assumes the dimensions of the most recent clipboard image.
-
-
3
Paste the captured image into the window by pressing the "Ctrl" and "V" keys at the same time.
-
4
Process the image as needed by adjusting the colors, brightness and contrast, or by applying any filters.
- 5
-
6
Adjust the "Quality" slider on the right to control the JPEG compression as you judge image quality on the left. The status bar at the bottom of the image changes interactively as you move the slider. A lower number reduces both the file size and the image resolution. This example constitutes a compromise between the two factors with the number 50. Note how the original image on the far left is 3 MB large while the adjusted image in the center of the screen is only 126 KB.

7
Enter a name for the image and then click "OK" to save the file--in this case, as "screen.jpg."
-
8
Close the current file without saving it and open the JPEG file you just created. Examine it to correct any image issues. If you make any changes, re-save the file.
