How to Design Belt Buckles

1
Brainstorm on your ideas. Whether you have a single idea or a multitude of them for belt buckles, dedicate some time and energy to visualizing each one. Jotting down details and making some preliminary sketches often helps in this process.

2
Select one of your design ideas to move forward with. While it isn't important which belt buckle concept you want to pursue, it's best to only work on one idea at a time.

3
Decide on what occasions you will wear your belt buckle. For instance, if this belt buckle is going to be worn casually, then design motifs such as skulls, lightning bolts, thorned roses, and broken hearts are all acceptable. If however, this buckle is going to be worn for more formal occasions, then more subtle design styles, such as Celtic knots, understated symbols such as crucifixes, and even just plain metal should be considered.

4
Decide on the image you want your belt buckle to depict. The designs previously mentioned are all perfectly good ones, but more specific elements should be considered. To help make a belt buckle seem smoother, it should be rounded at the edges. At the other end, making a belt buckle square draws more attention to it.

5
Put the finishing touches on your belt buckle design. Decide what metal it should be made out of (silver, steel, bronze, plated), how large it should be, what sort of belt the buckle should be worn with, and whether the belt buckle should be removable or permanently attached to a single belt.
