How to Make Tea in a Mr. Coffee Coffeemaker

A special tea-brewing appliance isn't necessary for making iced tea if you have a coffee maker, which can double as a tea maker. Making tea in a Mr. Coffee coffee maker allows the tea to steep at a constant heat without evaporating, scorching or boiling dry. The following directions are for a 10- or 12-cup Mr. Coffee coffee maker and yield 1 gallon of sweetened iced tea. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Mr. Coffee coffee maker
  • Water
  • Four family-size tea bags
  • Sugar
  • Gallon-size pitcher
  • Lemon (optional)

      Fill coffee carafe to the 10-cup line with water.

      Pour the water into the water reservoir of the coffee maker.

      Place four family-size tea bags in the coffee carafe.

      Turn the coffee pot on.

      Steep tea bags in hot water at least 30 minutes, and as long as two hours. The longer the tea is allowed to steep, the stronger it will be.

      Fill a gallon-size pitcher two-thirds full with cold water.

      Remove the tea bags from the coffee carafe.

      Add two cups of sugar (more or less, depending on preference) to the coffee carafe.

      Stir with the wooden spoon until the sugar is completely dissolved.

      Pour the sweetened tea into the pitcher of water.

      Add additional cold water if necessary to fill the pitcher.

      Pour over ice and serve with lemon (optional).

Tips & Warnings

  • Coffee carafes are fragile glass and caution should be taken when stirring to dissolve the sugar.
