How to Cook With Guinness Beer

Guinness is a popular Irish stout, but you also can add this beer to your recipes. Contrary to popular belief, alcohol is not entirely cooked away during heating; if you are serving anyone with a sensitivity to alcohol, you may want to leave out the Guinness. Guinness can be used in any recipe that requires a hearty stout. Recipes can be accessed by using a link in the Resources section. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Look for recipes that call for a stout. Many Irish recipes, such as beef stew, use stout as an ingredient.

    • 2

Replace a 1/4 of the liquid in stews, soups and red-meat dishes with Guinness. Even if the recipe does not call for beer, the alcohol will bring more flavor to the dish. Do not use in seafood or poultry dishes. The flavor of Guinness will overpower these meats.

    • 3

As you cook, add Guinness at the beginning to bring more flavor to a dish and to tenderize the meat.

    • 4

When baking chocolate desserts, such as cake or brownies, using a little Guinness instead of some of the milk or water.
