How to Sell Retail Products to Salons
In addition to being a place for haircuts, perms and other beauty treatments, some salons also sell a variety of personal care products to their clients. These include hair, skin and other beauty products. Selling these products to salons can be a good business opportunity and a great service to salons interested in selling retail products to their clients but who do not want to bother with being distributors of these products.

1
Pick the company or companies whose products you will like to recommend to salons. You should decide on companies with excellent products that are known for having good relationships with their distributors. See a link in Resources for a directory of beauty product manufacturers.

2
Pick a product or group of products. There is no shortage of products from which to choose. Some manufacturers even have several lines of products. You will need to pick the few products that matter. One way of deciding this is talking to salon owners and stylists, and finding out what they and their clients are interested in.

Arm yourself with as many testimonials as you can of customers who have tried and are satisfied with these products. This is especially true for newer products that may not be familiar to salons. The company may provide these to you as part of your marketing package as a beginning distributor. Alternatively, you could collect samples to give to your friends and family to try in exchange for comments, which you can then use as testimonials.

4
Search for salons that will be your clients and buy your products regularly. It may take a while to build a list of loyal clientele, but keep at it. You may have to contact all the salons in the area you intend to cover and beyond.

5
Put some time and effort into business and personal development. It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day process of trying to sell your products. But you will need to spend time on your personal and business growth so you do not eventually succumb to burnout. One way to do this is to join local business and networking groups or to hire a business coach. You may also befriend more experienced entrepreneurs and ask to pick their brains once in a while.
