Flower pot animals are a cute, whimsical character that you can make as a craft with or for children. You can use child-safe acrylic paints to allow a child to paint the craft. You can make flower pot animals for gifts, doorstops and decorative conversation pieces. Make a miniature replica of your pet or a favorite farm or wild animal.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flower pots
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Felt
  • Adhesive
  1. Step 1

Choose the animal that you want to make out of plant pots. Purchase two plant pots that are two slightly different sizes. For instance, you might choose 6-inch and 5-inch pots.

  2. Step 2

Paint the clay pots with acrylic paint in a color that will work for the animal. Paint a second coat to be sure the pots are thoroughly coated.

  3. Step 3

Turn the large pot upside down on your work surface. Apply a thin layer of adhesive on the outer edge of the bottom of the large pot. Turn the smaller pot upside down and stack it on top of the larger one, pressing it in to the adhesive. Adjust to make sure the pots are aligned evenly.

  4. Step 4

Paint the eyes, nose and mouth of the animal on the top pot. Add spots and other features to give the animal character.

  5. Step 5

Draw ear, tongue, fins or tail shapes onto recycled, lightweight cardboard for a pattern. Cut out the pattern.

  6. Step 6

Trace patterns onto felt in colors that match your animal. Cut out felt ears and parts from the felt.

  7. Step 7

Glue felt ears, tails or embellishments to the clay pot to give the animal dimension and finishing touches.
