Things You'll Need:
- Time
- Will Power
- Shower
- Antiperspirant
-
Step 1
OBESITY. This is the first main cause of excessive sweating. This happens because you are overweight, which causes you to sweat a lot. Carrying around too many pounds puts a strain on your body, so even everyday activities can cause excessive sweat. Obviously, losing weight will help significantly.
-
Step 2
MENOPAUSE. You will start to notice a change over the age of 38. You will often become very warm quite suddenly and begin to sweat profusely. You may also, from time-to-time, have sweating episodes at night. These "episodes" are referred to as hot flashes (night sweats). They are very common and normal. There are treatments available so talk to your doctor.
-
Step 3
HYPERTHYROIDISM. Common with this is excessive sweating, appetite loss, unexplained weight loss, weakness or trembling, bulging of the eyes, and/or rapid heartbeat. This is not dangerous as long as it is treated properly. Talk to your doctor if any of these symptoms occur.
-
Step 4
There are many self-care measures that can be taken to minimize your sweating problem. Dress in natural, light, loose-fitting fabrics, like cotton, that will absorb perspiration and allow air to circulate. Avoid the following: nylon, polyester, and rayon.
-
Step 5
Use a deodorant that contains an antiperspirant. Choose a roll-on or stick as they will provide more protection than spray deodorants. The beautiful thing about an antiperspirant is they can be applied to any area of the body that sweats, including the feet palms of the hands, and forehead.
-
Step 6
You can also soak the sweaty areas in cold water for 30 minutes. This has the ability to prevent sweating for up to 3 hours.
-
Step 7
Avoid spicy foods, do not smoke, and drink alcohol in moderation as all of these things increase sweating.
-
Step 8
If none of these ideas work, see your doctor as electric currents can also help (iontophoresis).
