How to Apply Eye Shadow Step by Step
Applying eye shadow may seem intimidating because you are essentially painting onto a really small canvas, but forego the intimidating process, remain calm and visualize how you want your eyes to look. Eye shadow can enhance your beauty and set your mood for the day, so choosing the right color is already 50 percent of the battle. After that, you simply need to know how it goes on your eyelids.

1
Apply a light layer of eyeshadow foundation, or primer, onto your eyelids to create an even tone.
-
2
Choose your eye shadow color; one should be a neutral color while the other is darker. Eye shadows in the metallic-silver range are perfect for eliminating droopy lids. The shiny shade is also good for late night events, but it can also exaggerate the unflattering wrinkle on your lid.
-
3
Run your eyeshadow brush over the neutral eye shadow.
-
4
Apply the neutral eye shadow from the lash line to the crease, across the entire lid, with sweeping upward motions toward the brow.
-
5
Tap off any excess shadow, then lightly sweep the brush over the darker eye shadow.
-
6
Create contour by applying shadow at the outer corner of the eye, above the top lashes, and sweep along the lid where the brow bone and crease meet. You should be creating a half-moon toward the center of the eyelid with several back and forth motions. Do not darken the inner part of the eyelid.
-
7
Use a smudge tool, usually found on eyeliner pencils, to blend the dark and neutral shades more thoroughly.
