If your teeth are not healthy, the rest of your body suffers. You can't eat, you have pain in your mouth that radiates everywhere, and you might have to endure some nasty dental work. There is more to dental hygiene than brushing and flossing. Sometimes those measures just don't get all the debris out of your mouth. Your dentist might suggest that you use an oral cleansing system. Here are step by step instructions on how to maintain healthy teeth and gums with an oral cleansing system or water pick.

My husband does this once daily and he never has problems at the dentist!

Instructions

    • 1
      Heat distilled water

Heat up distilled water for about 30 seconds in the microwave or in a teapot. My husband puts the water in a microwave-safe measuring cup and pops it in the microwave.

    • 2
Pour water into oral cleaning system

Pour the warm distilled water into the reservoir of the oral cleaning system.

    • 3
      Attach the tip

Attach the tip of the pick to the irrigator handle.

    • 4
Shoot the water along your gums

Put your finger on the control button to pause the power until you are ready to roll. Turn it on, bend over the sink, and shoot the water along your gums. Do this procedure for five to six seconds per tooth. Shoot the water under your tongue, too. Most people tend to forget that the tongue needs attention, too!

If you do this religiously, you should maintain healthy teeth for a good long time!

Tips & Warnings

  • Lean low over the sink because it could get messy otherwise.

  • Allow water to come out of your mouth. This is normal and necessary. Be sure not to swallow this water.

  • Be aware that these dental gadgets are extremely noisy.
