How to Profit By Selling Items on Craigslist

In today's economy many are faced with unexpected lay-offs, others get fired and business owners have businesses that fail. A loss in income can greatly affect a family and making ends meet is difficult. Many people have assets they don't mind liquidating and also have items of value that are not being used but may either not have the time to hold a garage sale or in areas where a permit has to be bought for holding a garage sale, may not even have the funds for a permit. Craigslist is a wonderful and profitable way to sell those unwanted items and bring some money quickly into your home.

1. 
   Get ready to post your unwanted items and make a little money as profit.

   Go to Craigslist at http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites

2. Click on the State you are going to post your listing in. This should be the state you live in as the buyers you'd like to attract will be those who are local and can pick up and also pay promptly for items bought. For example, Texas.

3. Next, select your city or the city nearest to you. For example, Austin.

4. Locate the For Sale category and click the category you will be selling in. If you are selling a bedroom set from a spare room, you'd select Furniture.

5. Post your item. In the upper right hand corner you will see Post. Select it. A list of the categories will show again and once more, select the category your item(s) belong in.

6. Title. Just like writing a book title, if the title is catchy, it will get attention but be sure your article in listed somewhere in the title. The price and location sections you need to fill out are self-explanatory.

7. Posting Description. Write a description that is thorough but not so much information to read that a potential buyer will pass the listing up. I would recommend including a phone number rather than email if you don't read your emails frequently during the day just so you don't miss a buyer who may be ready to buy minutes after seeing your ad. If you do include an email, please make sure you spelled it correctly and will be checking it often.

   Clean up all items before taking the photo.

   Add an image. If you haven't already done so. Get your digital camera and take a photo of each item you plan to sell. Attach the photo to the ad it applies to. If you are selling an item that hasn't been used in awhile, please clean it up before taking the photo or selling an item. If needed, take several photos so you can choose the best one for your ad.

9. Click the Continue button.

    Look your ad over for completeness, correct email address or phone number and other details.

    Review your ad to make sure it looks as you desire.

11. Read and Accept the Terms of Use.

12. Write the capture word that appears as requested.

    Be sure you check your email often while your listing is active.

    Check your email. The ad will go to your email for you to review a final time. If all looks good, select Publish.
