More and more red light traffic cameras have been installed to monitor traffic and issue citations or tickets. Following the steps below will help you learn how avoid a red light camera traffic violation or citation.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If you are approaching an intersection and the trafic light shows yellow or red, stop at the intersection.

  2. Step 2

If it has turned yellow and you are unable to stop, as long as you have entered the intersection while the light is yellow, you should not receive a citation. In these instances, avoid slamming on your brakes as you should not receive a ticket and your actions may endanger other drivers behind you.

  3. Step 3

If you are making a right on red turn, be sure to make a complete two-second stop before you enter the intersection to turn right.
Otherwise, you will probably receive a citation from the red light camera.

  4. Step 4

If you have received a citation, but believe you did nothing wrong, visit the web site identified on the ticket or citation. At the site, you will be able to watch the video and/or view pictures to confirm your violation. If it is not correct, challenge the ticket pursuant to the instructions provided on the ticket
