Classic Strapless Wedding Gown

We have all been to weddings where we had to cringe at a beautiful but poorly fitted strapless bridal (or bridesmaid for that matter) gown. Learn how to properly fit your strapless wedding gown so that you and your dress will look beautiful us a complete package on your special day and you can move about with confidence and class.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find an undergarment that goes from your bust to your waist at minimum. Most strapless gowns are A line and the proper undergarment smooths out your lines and will take an inch off of your waist.

  2. Step 2

If you are a large-busted woman, make sure that the dress has enough structure to give you the support that you need. Your wedding gown should fit so that in combination with your undergarment, your bust is still in the same place it would be if you were wearing your best bra.

  3. Step 3

Finally, when my mother worked at a bridal shop, she would tell all of the expectant brides that they would know they had a proper fit when they had made the dress tight enough that they could not lift their arms over their heads. This is the proper fit for any strapless gown, meant to prevent the unsightly scene of having to watch self-conscious women hike up their dress all evening long. This does mean that you will not be able to move as freely as you would in other styles of bridal gowns. If the reception dance is what you are especially looking forward to, go for a halter instead. It will still show off your shoulders in a very flattering and pretty way.
