Things You'll Need:
- a natural picture of yourself
-
Step 1
Many people are uncomfortable with the thought of posting a photo of themselves on their social networking profiles. Some may feel it is "safer" to use an avatar or to not use a picture at all. Others simply aren’t comfortable with the thought of strangers seeing what they look like, while yet others are never happy with the way their photos look and simply can't find one that they are willing to share online.
Step 1 is to realize that regardless of your reasoning, it is important for you to lift the veil and let other members within your social network see what you look like. -
Step 2
Get rid of that Avatar!
Although avatars can be creative, imaginative and fun, simply put - they usually don't work.
People like to send messages when they can connect a face with the person they are interacting with. -
Step 3
Find a recent picture of yours you feel comfortable with.
If you can't find one, don't worry. With today's digital cameras and camera phones taking a picture is a breeze.
Don't be too self judgmental. A profile picture is not meant to be a beauty contest. It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be you! -
Step 4
Upload your picture to your social networking profile.
By posting a photo of yourself, you are more likely to draw new friends and contacts into your social networking circle. In fact, when searching for new people to add to their circle of friends, many people restrict their searches to only include those people who have posted a photo within their profile. Given all of these facts, it really comes as no surprise that research has show that people who post pictures on their social networking profiles have more profile hits and make more friends on these sites than those who do not.
