Decorative pillows are a great way to add interest to any room. You can put small pillows on chairs and larger pillows on your sofa. You can even put great big pillows on your floor! But finding the right size pillow in the right color or print at a price you can afford may be quite a challenge. A better solution is to make your own. And you don't even have to know how to sew!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Head on over to the pillow section of any department store and pick up some inexpensive bed pillows. Using a bed pillow as your form is the least expensive way to go. Don't worry about the pillows being a rectangle shape. You can squish them to make them square if you want. If you are making a round pillow or another shape pillow you can cut the pillow open and use the filling. Many times it's cheaper to buy a pillow and cut it up than to buy a bag of poly-fil. Check the price of poly-fil in your store and compare to see if buying a pillow is less expensive. Chances are it is!

  2. Step 2

Now it's time to cover your pillow to make it decorative. You can use just about any kind of fabric you can think of. First, start by looking in the fabric section and go through their clearance section. Any fabric will work. But if you are on a tight budget you may want to look elsewhere for fabric. So hit the other departments in your store.

  3. Step 3

You can buy sheets and blankets and cut them to fit. You can use vinyl shower curtains to make outdoor pillows for your lawn furniture. You can use hand towels, bath towels or beach towels. You can even use fur bathroom rugs! You will be able to find any color or print you want if you shop smart and look around the store. You are not limited to the fabric section.

  4. Step 4

If you don't sew there is still hope for you. Ask your fabric clerk for Liquid Thread or any other liquid adhesive. Liquid Thread is very easy to use and it's washable. Just glue your fabric leaving one side open then stuff it with the pillow or the fill. Then glue the last side shut and you have a pillow. It's as easy as that!

  5. Step 5

Don't forget to check out the craft department for trim and other goodies to add to your pillows. You can glue the trim on too. You can also sew on or glue on buttons, artificial flowers, pom poms or whatever else your creative mind can dream up. And once you have all your decorative pillows made make some new pet beds for your pets! They deserve something decorative too!
